Pawsitive I.D. DNA Testing For Pets Launches in Atlanta
PinPoint DNA Technologies, Inc. announced today that it will launch its new DNA testing product, Pawsitive I.D. ™, which allows clients to genetically screen and fingerprint their pets. “Having this information can really help you care for your dog or cat,” says Rick Dobbins, CEO of Pinpoint. “Now you can tell if your pet tests positive, negative or is a carrier of any inherent, genetic diseases. We know that so many of these animals are your best friends, and we just want to help them live longer, healthier lives.”
Pawsitive I.D. also provides customers with their pet’s unique DNA fingerprint. “This is literally your pet’s serial number,” he says. “The chances of another dog or cat having the same DNA fingerprint are almost impossible. This DNA fingerprint never changes, so whether your pet is 10 weeks old or 10 years old, the DNA fingerprint is always the same.”
When purchasing Pawsitive I.D., each pet owner receives a DNA Genotyping kit that contains a Pet Profile with Customer ID number. After filling out the Pet Profile, the customer then takes the DNA sample. “Simply take the cheek swab out of its sterile envelope and rub against the inside of your pet’s cheek for about 10 seconds,” Dobbins explains. “Once you have taken the sample, place it into the envelope provided. About 2 weeks later, you will receive the Certificate of Genotyping in the mail.”
This certificate has all of the pet’s DNA disease and trait screening information as well as their unique DNA fingerprint data. Pawsitive I.D. also keeps this certificate in a secure database that is available to the client in the event that their pet gets lost or legal ownership needs to be proven. “For breeders or individuals who buy and sell animals, this certificate is like a title for a car,” Dobbins says. “It can be used to transfer ownership.”
In addition to this, customers receive a year’s membership to PetSurf.Com *, a website dedicated to pets and their owners. Its services include a 24/7 pet hospital locator and access to medical archives, as well as assistance if a pet ever gets lost. This is a subscription website and the purchase of Pawsitive I.D. entitles clients to one year membership free.
Consumers can purchase the Pawsitive I.D. DNA Testing kits for $49.95 from participating area veterinarian offices or online at PawsitiveID.net.
* PetSurf.Com’s premium services due to be available in late 2007.
